When the client moved into their newly built detached home, they inherited the standard garden of most modern developments: a modest lawn and a simple patio. However, our vision for the outdoor space was far more ambitious. They wanted a garden that was not only free from the typical lawn but one that would serve as a sanctuary for wildlife, specifically attracting birds. Along with this, they sought greater privacy from the surrounding properties and desired inviting spaces where they could enjoy both the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the shade.

The design cleverly maximized the available space by introducing a series of distinct planting zones tailored to the varying light conditions. A shaded stumpery adds an enchanting woodland atmosphere. Beneath pleached apple trees, a lush, woodland-inspired planting scheme brings texture and depth to the garden. Rose borders lend a romantic touch, while a pollinator-friendly planting border, complete with a rustic woodpile habitat, encourages bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

These carefully crafted areas not only enrich the biodiversity of the garden but also provide countless opportunities for the client's grandchildren to explore and connect with nature. Whether basking in the sun or retreating to a shady corner, the garden has been transformed into a vibrant, multifunctional haven that harmonizes beauty, privacy, and wildlife conservation.
