When this older couple made the move from city life to embrace the charm of village living, they found themselves with the largest garden they had ever owned—a sprawling space that both excited and intimidated them. Eager to transform it into something special, they sought a design that would not only accommodate their lifestyle but also invite the beauty of nature in.
The brief was multifaceted, aiming to support a variety of wildlife—birds, pollinators, amphibians, and aquatic invertebrates—while creating areas for both socializing and solitude and growing vegetables.
Crucially, the garden design had to respect and frame the picturesque borrowed view of a nearby pond set within neighbouring parkland—ensuring that the serene vista remained unobstructed.
In terms of planting, the design included a wildflower meadow that would not only enhance the garden’s vibrancy but also act as a haven for wildlife. A mown lawn area was incorporated for their dog to enjoy, while the broader planting scheme focused on a rich, bold colour palette that would create year-round interest.
The result is a garden that is as alive with biodiversity as it is with vibrant colour—a seamless blend of spaces for relaxation, wildlife, and connection to the surrounding natural beauty.
